Dorrance Dance

Tap dance, like jazz, is one of America’s homegrown art forms. Founded in 2011 by MacArthur Award recipient and artistic director Michelle Dorrance, Dorrance Dance honors and revitalizes tap through furious rhythms and adventurous, yet accessible, choreography. The company’s Mondavi Center debut features three pieces: Jungle Blues; Three to One; and Dorrance’s latest work, Myelination, which melds 12 dancers, singers and a full instrumental band together to create a rush that, as The New York Times puts it, “pushes the boundaries of tap while exposing its true nature: that it is music.”

Q&A Session

The presentation of Myelination by Dorrance Dance was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
