Celebrating “30 plucking years” of funny, virtuosic, twanging, footstomping rock-n-roll and melodious entertainment featuring only the “bonsai guitar,” the Ukes continue to share the astonishingly rich palette of orchestration afforded by ukuleles and singing (and a bit of whistling), this time with a first-ever holiday program. The Orchestra uses the limitations of the instrument to create a musical freedom that reveals unsuspected musical insights. You may never think about popular music (or the charming selection of holiday tunes) in the same way once you’ve been exposed to the Ukes’ delightfully depraved musicology. Tune your ukes (and your voices) for a much-anticipated string-and-sing-along.
Join the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain this Christmas.
Play along with the band that has entertained British Royalty, jammed with George Harrison, performed with Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and rocked out at Glastonbury Festival! This holiday season The Ukulele Orchestra will ask the audience to add to the music by inviting them to participate in a ukulele play and sing along from their seats in the hall. Feel free to practice at home and make sure to download and print the music to bring with you to the event!
Please note: ukulele cases will not be permitted in the hall but you may check your case in the lobby; be sure to include identification on your case!
The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain really should be a national institution of the same ilk as grammar schools, fish and chips, traffic jams and the NHS.
