Musicians are still reckoning with Miles Davis’ influence on jazz. As a composer, bandleader, instrumentalist and innovator, Davis pushed the music and the culture in countless new directions, from cool jazz (Birth of the Cool), post-bop (Kind of Blue) to the heady days of fusion (In a Silent Way) and beyond. It has only been a matter of time for the eight performers and composers of the SFJAZZ Collective to reckon with Davis’ influence. They will do so with new arrangements of his compositions played alongside new pieces by the Collective members.
You can propose various definitions for what this band represents, but it's a superbrain for what serious jazz sounds like now.
